Our recent fund-raising event, ‘An Evening of Light Music’, held on 19th July at St
Michael’s Church Centre, Martlesham Heath, was an enjoyable concert comprising of
light music from throughout the last century right up to the modern day, from folk tunes
to songs from musicals. The concert included both singing and instrumental pieces,
interspersed with interesting facts about the music that was being performed. The
audience enthusiastically joined in with some of the songs, for which they were provided
with the words, and there were many comments about the great atmosphere of the
evening. Our thanks go to all who helped make the evening a success – the performers,
Helen Ellison and singers, Abi Vaughan (accompanist) and Melton Folk, as well as all
those who helped on the evening and of course the audience.

The illustrated talk by Thomas Baker on his ‘Indian Odyssey’ was very interesting and thoroughly enjoyed by the many people who attended from all around the area. Thomas took us on his voyage of several weeks as a passenger on a container ship through the Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal, Red Sea and across the Indian Ocean to Mumbai. Then by train to Hoshangabad in the centre of India where his great-grandfather was a missionary in the late 19th century. He showed us pictures of some of the mission buildings that still remain and other photographs of the area as it was when he visited.

Thank you to Thomas for a fascinating evening and thank you to all who supported the event.
